Imports in Suriname averaged 574.09 USD Million from 2008 until 2015, reaching an all-time high of 1406.70 USD Million in the fourth quarter of 2008 and a record low of -527.10 USD Million in the second quarter of 2015.Suriname main imports are food, fuel, clothing and machinery. Main import partners are the United States (26 per cent of total imports) and Netherlands (16 per cent). Others include: United Arab Emirates, Netherlands and Brazil. Export policy


The backbone of the economy of Suriname is the export of aluminium oxide and small amounts of aluminium produced from bauxite mined in the country. Exports in Suriname decreased to 441.40 USD Million in the second quarter of 2015 from 479.20 USD Million in the first quarter of 2015. Exports in Suriname averaged 754.81 USD Million from 2008 until 2015, reaching an all-time high of 2084.10 USD Million in the fourth quarter of 2010 and a record low of 441.40 USD Million in the second quarter of 2015.Suriname main exports are bauxite (70 per cent of total exports). Others include: gold, oil, hardwood and bananas. Main export partners are: the United States (23 per cent of total exports), Canada (20 per cent), Belgium, United Arab Emirates, Norway, Guyana and Netherlands.
